For those of you too young to recognize our photo, it is the Lone Ranger,…

I recently met my dear friend Doris in downtown Chicago early one morning. We started the day looking for a place to eat a bite. We found a local market just off Michigan Ave. that had an incredible array of pastries, chocolates, and fresh fruits. As we sat there each enjoying an amazing pastry and talking for an extended time, we watched as countless people walked in from the street and headed up an escalator to a second level. Intrigued by the foot traffic, we decided to take the escalator ourselves. To our astonishment the second level was massive and surprisingly filled with 9 restaurants, yes nine! Apart from the restaurants, there are countless imported specialty pastas, olive oils, vinegars, fine chocolates and wines, and an unbelievable selection of cheeses along with fresh baked breads, local choice fish and meats. The second level is a whole wonderful world of its own!
The thought occurred to me that if Doris and I had never ventured up the escalator following others, we would have missed out on the most amazing part of Eataly. And what a miss that would have been. It also made me think:
- We cannot even begin to imagine what God has in store for us in heaven. We live on the street level enjoying the pastry while He is preparing a whole floor above with amazing aspects we can’t even imagine.
- And who is following me there? Without all those people headed to the escalator, we probably wouldn’t have checked it out. I need to be pointing others toward heaven.
I’m so grateful that God is preparing an indescribable place for us! Better than heaven on earth.
If you would like to check out Eataly, it’s located at 43 East Ohio Street in downtown Chicago, Illinois.
